Although many new synthetic drugs, sometimes referred to as new psychoactive substances (NPS), have received a lot of media attention in recent years, the research chemicals on which these drugs are based are not new. Research chemicals are extremely dangerous, as their dependency rates vary by type of drug and the risk of overdose and adverse health effects is high. They are legitimate scientific and stem from controlled studies, but those that ended up in the illegal drug trade rarely had their long-term effects on human health.
It is difficult to say exactly what effects the ingestion of these substances has, as there is no guarantee that you will find these chemicals in them. There is a difference between the use of research chemicals for scientific research and their use to achieve high levels. Using a research chemical carries a higher risk of overdose and adverse health effects than a well-studied substance such as alcohol or tobacco.
What are legit research chemicals?
Before the Internet, the formulations for research chemicals were hard to come by, but many illegal manufacturers found chemical information on the Internet for free and then produced dangerous intoxicants based on it. However, some manufacturers have managed to sell legal highs by passing them on as bath salts or research chemicals. Although mephedrone, also known as meowing, was banned in 2010, it can still be sold as a research drug in plants and food.
In order to bring designer drugs and research chemicals under better legal control, some places have temporarily given these drugs drug status. This allows law enforcement to act quickly when they first show up on the street and endure a long search and waiting period.
In the US, this means that they are included in the diary. I of the Law on Controlled Substances, a list of chemicals classified as non-medically usable and at high risk of abuse. These include emerging psychoactive substances such as heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and marijuana, as well as those that may have originated from research laboratories or other research institutions in the United States.
Why you should buy research chemicals in the EU, USA, or Australia?
As described below, each of these substances has a slightly different definition, but they are often interchangeably used as NPS and new psychoactive substances. These are sold in small packs, often labeled in a small package with an apparently legal application.

It has also been found that some of the drugs sold under the name of ‘legal highs’ contain one or more substances that are actually illegal. It includes substances such as amphetamines, amphetamines, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana, ecstasy, LSD, and other drugs of abuse.
What is a research chemical?
These are medicines that are used for research, but also for recreation and fun. Below we present some of the dangerous research chemicals found or seized in the UK in recent years as a result of substance abuse and overdose reports.
These substances are usually pre-planned medicines that have evaded regulation and are therefore also known as “legal highs.” Legal highs seem to be mostly untested and unregulated compounds, and chemical detection and testing methods are needed to easily detect and test the illegal compounds in legal highs. In general, these are substances that circumvent the rules and are therefore not subject to the same level of regulation as illegal drugs.
Prohibiting legal highs is pointless because it is impossible to keep up with new drugs because they can be synthesized in the same way that illegal drugs are banned. The purpose of this study was, therefore, to investigate, on the basis of previous research, whether cathinone such as mephedrone can still be sold as newly labeled “legal highs” after their ban, and if so, in what form. A good understanding of the chemical composition of legal high substances is important to gain a better understanding of their effects on human health and the environment.
